The Fine Wine Encounter

Matthew and I were guests of Chateau Greysac at the The Decanter Fine Wine Encounter that was held on Sunday at the Land Mark Hotel in London.

There were over 100 producers showing their wines from around the world including Château Greysac www.greysac.com. This was a great opportunity to talk directly with the producers and try wines that you might not get the opportunity.

I could list all the wines that I tried but that may be rather boring to read! Apart from the delicious wines of Greysac the few that stood out for me was the famous Louis Jadot. It was not only the wines but the gentleman who was serving the wine. He had a wealth of knowledge and was intriguing to listen to. It was a shame not to have more time with him, over the 1992 Domaine des Heritiers, Beaune 1er Cru Theurons 1997 we were tasting.

We tasted Quinta do Noval Tawny Port. The 10yr, 20yr and ending with a Colheita 1995. A Colheita Port is a Vintage Tawny. It was great to taste through the years, Matthews favourite was of course the vintage, the most expensive, unfortunately for him we’re having the 10yr old for Christmas!

The one I was most excited about trying was the Gewürztraminer from Tramin in North Italy Alto Adige. The Gewürztraminer grape originates from Tramin, hence its name Gewurz meaning spice and Tramin the place. Wow it was intense, it had a gorgeous full flavour, almost like liquid turkish delight!
