Focus on a Top 20 Tipple – Rene Joly Champagne

Located in Landreville in the Côte des Bars, Champagne René Jolly is a family owned business with a history dating back to 1737.

The winery only produces champagne from its own vineyards, which is rare in Champagne and has 11 hectares split between 4 family owned parcels. These are planted 70% to Pinot Noir and 30% to Chardonnay. The vineyards are treated organically with no fertilizers or chemicals, all grapes are hand harvested as late as possible.

The Blanc de Noir Champagne is a blend of at least 3 different years and once bottled spends a minimum of 3 years in the cellars, before being disgorged by hand without freezing. Champagne René Jolly is one of the only producers in the region to use this method of disgorgement.

Pierre-Eric Jolly, the current winemaker, took over from his father in 2000 and since then has brought many new innovations to the winery and indeed the Champagne region.
