Sunshine Brings First Signs of Life

It really was exciting to see the sun over the weekend which has given a real boost to bud burst at Oatley vineyard nr Cannington Somerset. The winter is an important season to allow the vines to rest and it is great to see the buds burst as it shows signs of life, the first signs of annual growth and that the weather is warming up!Oatley Budburst

There are dangers at this time of year for vines and this is frost risk. Oatley are fully aware and have learnt techniques to reduce the impact on the yield. Through training certain vines in risk areas on a higher wires and mowing grass very short till frost danger’s over gives the cold air free drainage. Oatley have been growing grapes for many years have have learnt what does and doesn’t work and that is why they produce award winning wines.

Jane from Oatley recently posted on Facebook how they tasted an Oatley 1994 that still showed youth and complexity, move over Bordeaux and welcome Somerset!
